Project Title: Gwrando Project, led by Dr Veronica Calarco, funded by Arts Wales.

Summary of project:

Molla wariga (gwrando dwfn) aimed to develop deep listening and reciprocity

between artists in Australia, Iwerddon and Cymru and share knowledge of each other’s cultural, linguistic and creative explorations. Stiwdio Maelor hosted and curated an exhibition of the works created during the project, in September ’23, showcasing the artist’s sketchbooks and drawings as well as completed works.

Artists involved included two musicians, three visual artists, all with an interest in endangered languages and a linguist with deep knowledge of the Gaelic language.

Through zoom meetings we compared words and phrases and used the insights gained in our work, which in the final exhibition included an original music piece, a poem, a performance piece in Irish, as well as visual images.
