Le Cheile

‘Le Cheile’: a collaborative project between artists from the LeinsterPrintmaking

Studio and The Regional Print centre, Wrexham, North Wales. 2007-2012. The

artists involved explored the diversity of cultural connections between Wales and

Ireland through themes of land language and place,

As the project progressed the participating artists came together in group residencies

in Cill Rialig in Kerry and in Nant Gwrtheyrn, in Wales. I started working with my

Welsh ‘twin’ Linda Davies on the idea of home and memory. We began with sources

such as the Irish bog and the slate mines in Wales and explored text and mapping as

well as images as a way of describing the landscape. I began to work on imagery

inspired by the bog near my home in Newbridge - Mouds bog- exploring its physical

presence through making collographs from materials found on the bog and also its

history of burial rituals and its inspiration for poets such as Seamas Heaney. I am

also a writer and am very interested in words and language. This project widened the

scope of my work with a broader use of ideas, from texture to text and mapping.

Work from this project was shown in numerous exhibitions in Kildare, Dublin, Wales

and South Australia.
